U.S. Veteran

Richard James "Dick" Carr 11/22/37 - 11/11/12

Rich (Dick) was born in San Francisco and grew up in Richmond, CA, the son of Ruth Koenig Carr and Melvin Lloyd Carr. He was in the National Guard all through high school and entered the Air Force after graduation. He was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska and then sent to Orlando, Florida. He held a variety of different jobs until joining Boiler Makers Local 549, Pittsburg; later becoming a pipefitter with Local 342 out of Concord.

He worked on the Alaskan Pipeline out of Valdez loving every moment he spent in Alaska. He later met his second wife, Vicky Boman Carr. They married in Kihei, Maui and travel back as often as possible. They love all the islands but especially Maui, it feels like home - ohana.

Rich's last job was working for Seagate in Singapore and Vicky got to go too. They both loved living at The Westin in Singapore right across from the famous Raffle's Hotel for 4 exciting months. They traveled back and forth to Malaysia and Indonesia, concluding their stay with a long trip to Australia and Bali. This job was a dream come true! Retiring to Oro Valley, AZ and living a "WARM" and happy 12 years - Rich & Vicky made many good and dear friends during that time and later moved back to CA to be near their family since both were having serious health issues.

Rich is survived by his wife Vicky, children: Gail Carr (Greg Nichols); Susan(Barry) Brown; Sandy (Steve) Craig; Debby Boman-Lawrence; Holly Boman; and Kenneth "Skip" (Christina) Boman. Grandchildren: Heather, Amber, Natalie, Julie and Alana; great grandchildren: Jessica and Jaden. Rich's sisters: Sandie (Bob) Wheeler and Debbie (Jim) Briney. Niece Kelley (Gary) Wright; great-niece Kristen (Will) Robinson, and great-great-niece: Scarlett. Nephew Jason Brown and niece Tiffany Brown and great-niece Kayleigh; great-nephew KJ Karzin and many cousins and second-cousins. Brother-in-law, Larry (Mary) Yanowsky, nephews Vince (Sara, Josh and Jordyn) Yanowsky and Gary Yanowsky. Sister in law, Bobbie Jo (Terry) Hurst, Tommy Boman and Susan Boman and their children, and a great grandson; also survived by ex-wife Alice Nunes Klienschmidt.

A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 120 East J. St., Benicia, CA on Saturday, Nov. 17th at 11:00 am. Everyone is invited that knew or worked with Rich and asked to wear Hawaiian attire. There will be a reception following at the church hall. A military funeral will be held at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma, San Diego, CA. at a later date.

Any donations are asked to be sent to the American Cancer Society in his name. Special thanks to everyone at North Bay Hospice. Rich suffered from complications of a rare skin cancer called Merkel cancer. He never gave up hope - saying "It is what it is"! Aloha dear one.....see you over the rainbow.
