Abel Maes Jr, (91), of Vacaville, California, passed away unexpectedly on April 28, 2023, surrounded by his wife, family, and friends.
Abe or "Abie," as he was affectionately called by childhood friends and family, was born January 29, 1932 to Abel Maes Sr. and Emma Alirez Maes in Frederick, Colorado. Growing up, Abe was a talented athlete who loved playing sports. His passion for basketball, football and baseball continued throughout his life, shown by his enthusiasm for the Golden State Warriors, The San Francisco 49ers, and the San Francisco Giants.  After graduating from High School, Abe joined the U.S. Coast Guard for 4 years.  Following his years in the military, Abe became a journeyman sheet metal worker and heating and air conditioning technician. His sheet metal trade brought him to Vacaville in 1968.  After a successful career in heating and air conditioning, he retired in 1989, but soon went back to work as Warehouse Manager for an electrical company in Sacramento until 2003.

Abe's favorite roles were that of a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved nothing more than spending time with his cherished wife Joni of 39 years, the small everyday moments and the milestones. The time he spent with his offspring was also precious. Whether simply listening, offering advice, or cheering them in their endeavors, he was always there for them.

While Abe lived a long, full life but still left us too soon. The impact he had on his family, friends, and community will be felt for years to come. Abe was a pillar; always there to listen, to guide, to nurture, and to love unconditionally. His kindness was unparalleled, his heart was enormous. It did not matter who you were, Abe treated everyone he met with the utmost respect and kindness. He will be dearly missed.
Abel is survived by his wife Joni, his four children, Marty Maes (Laura) of Weatherford, TX, Tami McCormick (Brian) of Longview, WA, Susan Maes of Moody, MO, and Marilyn Maes Zazueta (Moises) of Imperial Beach, CA, five grandchildren Micheline, Erin, Lorena, Lacey, and David, seven great grandchildren, his brother Richard of Dacono, CO and family, and his sister Yolanda Chavez of Las Vegas and family. Abe was predeceased by his parents, his sister Mary, brother Bill, and his eldest son David.

Services will be held on August 2, 2023, 11:30 AM at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home, 524 Elmira Road, Vacaville, CA 95687.
