It is with a great deal of sadness to announce that Alvin "Al" Edward Stewart age 81 years has passed away peacefully at his home on December 2, 2021. Al was born April 29, 1940 in Hamlin Texas to Alvin Sam Stewart and Minnie Marie Campbell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: John and Bobby Stewart. He was also preceded in death by his 2 sisters-in-laws Marlene Stewart and Virginia Stewart.

He is survived by his loving wife Darlene Coombs-Stewart of Vacaville and Son John "Kenny" Stewart as well as grandson Kaleb Wade Stewart of Vancouver, Washington. He is also survived by brothers Walter F. Stewart of Las Cruces N Mex., Ronnie L. Stewart (Donna) of Houston TX and Lynn Stewart  (Geraldine) of Abilene TX. Other family members include nieces Vicky of Idaho, Sandy of Colorado and, Paula, Cindy, Laura, and Brandi of Texas. Survivors also include his nephews David of N. M., Kenneth "Buck", Sean, and Jeromy of TX.

He is also survived by brother-in-law Richard Fraga of Lakeside CA  and special granddaughters Michelle Dunham (Dean) and children Alexzander Dunham, Jayvin, Caleb, and Isabella Grubb –Toms of Vacaville as well as special granddaughter Lacy Bills of Hamilton MT.

Other special people in Al's life include Cousins Thomas Campbell and son Brandon of Las Vegas NV, Eric Campbell (Dawn) of Little River CA. and all the Coombs nieces and nephews, Joshua, Jeremiah, John, Karla Covington and Samara Bathe as well as their families.

Al had a full and varied life, joining the Marine reserves at age 18 and later transferring to the Navy, training as a Corpsman. He served in this capacity while on shipboard during the Cuban crisis. He later joined the Air Force serving as a Medical Services specialist in the Philippines, Vietnam and Europe and other destinations. He eventually became an Airport Loadmaster Tech. He finished his Military career as an Air Operations Superintendent. His military career offered him many travel adventures which he thoroughly enjoyed.

After Al's military retirement, Al decided he wanted to become a math teacher and went on to receive an AA at Solano College, a BA at SIU, and his MA at Cal State Sacramento. After teaching math for a while he became interested in counseling and received an MA in psychology from University of San Francisco. Al retired from Solano College after teaching math for 25 years; settling in at his Vacaville home and he often traveled to northern California to enjoy his mountain property.

Al's many interests included his Scottish Heritage and Genealogy. He was the Northern California Representative for Clan Stewart Society in America for many years and served as its National President, Vice President and Treasurer. He loved working the Stewart tent at the Scottish games. Al also loved the garden and could often be found outside sweeping leaves and helping his neighbors however he could.

He will be missed by all, especially for his crazy sense of humor, his innate sense of curiosity and his kindness.

Services will be Monday, Dec. 20 ^th , 10 a.m. at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home, 524 Elmira Road, Vacaville California 95687. Interment will be private.
