Betty JoAnn (Miller) Mortensen passed away on February 29th, 2024, at the age of 91 having lived a full, joyful and caring life with a loving family and friends.

JoAnn was born September 11, l932 in Indianola, Iowa to Dean and Eula Miller. In 1941 she moved with her parents to Benicia, California. She was an active participant in both academic and athletic activities throughout all her school years. After graduating High School in 1950, she continued taking business courses at Solano Community College. Her first job interview for a full-time job was with the Bank of America, where she worked for the next 18 years. Later jobs included Sears Roebuck, bookkeeper/Office Manager for Edward Schwafel Civil Engineering, Bookkeeper/Executive Secretary for Syar Industries and in the Accounting Department of Solano County Sheriff's Office.

JoAnn and her husband Jim were High School classmates. After their marriage they made their home in Benicia where they resided until 1983, when they built their present home in Vacaville. JoAnn was an active participant in all her children's activities as President, Vice President, Treasurer of the P.T.A. for numerous terms, President of the Benicia Rainbow Mothers Club, and Board Member of the Benicia Rainbow Girls Advisory Board. She also served as Chairman of the De Molay Parents Club, Chairman and Organizer for the first Disneyland "Grad Night" for Benicia High School, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, and the Booster Club. Other organizations she served included the Benicia Lioness Club, City of Hope, President Cal Hi Pa Wives Club and a Grey Lady volunteer during the Korean War.Upon moving to Vacaville, she became active in the Circle "D" Horseman's Association, Red Hat Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Vacaville Rainbow Girls Advisory Board and served a number of years as an Ombudsman for the County of Solano.JoAnn had many interests including gardening, genealogy, reading, traveling, sewing, boating and crafting. However, her greatest joy and love was her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a kind and generous heart, always willing to lend a hand to those needing help.

JoAnn and Jim traveled extensively within the United States and Canada, many times including parents, children, and grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling in Europe, as well as cruising. JoAnn was pre-deceased by her beloved and forever missed husband Jim, parents Dean and Eula Miller, her brother Ray Miller, and her sister Janet (Miller) Moen: brother and sister-in-law Gordon and Chrys Mortensen and brothers-in-law Robert and John Mortensen, and Oliver Sowers.

Deeply loved and forever missed she is survived by her children and their spouses, son Steven (Darla) Mortensen; daughter, Linda (Vic) Thompson; daughter Jamie Mortensen (Joe Fields); and sisters-in-law Florence (Ray) Miller; Joyce (Oliver) Sowers, Eleanor Mortensen.She also leaves behind her greatly loved granddaughters and their spouses: Melissa (Pat) Ensley; Amy (Jeff) Warney; Kristen (Dennis) Riesche; Jodi (Quinton) Marquiss; and Jennifer (John) Martin and her cherished great grandchildren: Wyatt, Garrett, Jack and Levi Ensley; Haley, Brooke, and Nora Warney; Noah, Jerry James, and Jessie Riesche; Hank Marquiss; Bailey, Cameron and Dylan Martin, as well as numerous loved nieces, nephews, relatives and good friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery 5810 Midway Road, on April 17th, 2024 at 1:30 P.M .
