Obituary

Birdell Agnes Fontenot was born on July 14, 1936 to Clarence and Alvinia Mouton Fontenot, in Beaumont, Texas.  Birdell was the second child born to their union.

For her early years of Education, Birdell attended Our Mother of Mercy and went to Hebert High School in Beaumont, Texas, and was a member of the graduating class of 1954. She participated in many activities and found her love for sports along the way.

Birdell attended, Prairie View A & M in Prairie View, Texas, where she received her BS in Kinesiology.  In addition, she received her secondary teaching credential for physical education and her first teaching job was at her alma mater Hebert High School, in Beaumont Texas.

On January 12, 1956, Birdell married Lawrence Martin Valmore, the love of her life. They have 3 daughters, Marianna Yvonne Harris born in Beaumont, Texas; Andrea Maria Valmore born in Clark AFB Philippines; and Kimberly Bernadette Valmore-Oster born at Tempelhof in Berlin Germany.  Birdell shared 56 years of Marital Bliss with Lawrence before his passing.  Birdell and Lawrence were adamant and faithful followers of the Oakland Raiders.  They were season ticket holders from 1969 to their departure to Las Vegas in 2019.  They enjoyed sports, traveling and spending time with family, friends and their fraternal organizations.

Birdell taught at Department Of Defense Schools, Wagner High School in the Philippines, and Berlin American High School in Germany. Upon her return to the United States and Travis Air Force Base she continued her master's work and received a California Teaching credential from UCLA.  Furthermore, she received a counseling credential and PhD from Columbia University.

Birdell was a physical education teacher, basketball coach and counselor in Travis Unified School District. When Title 9 was implemented, she coached all the girls' sports at Vanden High, and was subsequently the first female inductee to the Vanden High School Hall of Fame. Birdell retired from Travis Unified School District and Vanden High School after 40 plus years in Education.

Birdell will be remembered as a very loving mom, granny grand, a wonderful sister, an awesome aunt, Excellent Educator, and a friend to many.

Birdell was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Martin Valmore; Her parents, Clarence and Alvinia Fontenot, her brothers, Robert and Clarence Fontenot Jr., and her sister Daisy Collier.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughters; Marianna Yvonne Harris, Ed.D. (Mark), Andrea Maria Valmore (Marty); Kimberly Bernadette Valmore-Oster (Michael); grandsons Eric Mason Valmore Harris, JD (Martina); Martin Thomas King Harris, Esq; Andrew Julius Valmore Oster, and Adrian Christopher Valmore Oster.  In addition, Birdell leaves her sisters, Betty Thomas, and Beverly Jones (Hardy) both in Beaumont, Texas; godson Ricky Thomas (Jocelyn) in Houston, Texas; along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

There will be a viewing on Monday, July 10, 2023 from 5:00 P.M - 8:00 P.M at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home; 524 Elmira Road,Vacaville,CA 95687. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 10:00 A.M at St. Mary's Catholic Church; 350 Stinson Ave, Vacaville, CA 95688. Burial will follow at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery; 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA 95620 at 1:15 P.M.
