Obituary

Peacefully and surrounded by his family, Chip O'Brien passed away at his home in Vacaville on August 9th at the age of 76.

Chip was born on December 11th 1946 in Haydenville, Massachusetts to Francis and Theresa O'Brien. He graduated from Saint Michaels in North Hampton Massachusetts in 1964. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy. After serving 6 years in the service Chip became a police officer for the city of Kittery (Maine). He moved to California in 1976 where he began his new career as a correctional officer for CDCR and retired as a Lieutenant in 2009.

Chip was a loving & devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He was a well known and published Cowboy Poet. He loved dancing in his younger years and was the biggest 49er fan you probably would ever meet. He was the greatest storyteller and could keep any audience that was in front of him captivated. He loved his children immensely.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna O'Brien. He leaves behind two grandchildren, Kaitey O'Brien-Conner and Hailey Smothers. He also leaves behind four great grandchildren Gaege, Karsyn, Emberleigh, Sage and seven siblings Patty Robinson, David O'Brien, Catherine O'Brien, Joelle O'Brien, Terry O'Brien, Ceil Humphrey, and Neil O'Brien.

He is preceded in death by his father Francis and mother Theresa O'Brien, sister Colleen O'Brien, sister Barbara Cullen, brother Art Southard, brother Donald McGrath, his daughter Jennifer O'Brien and son John O'Brien.
