A Funeral Service for Daniel Escay, 74 of Vacaville, will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 14, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church 78 Peabody Road Vacaville. Wednesday evening, November 13th there will be a viewing from 3-9:00 P.M. at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home 524 Elmira Road Vacaville.

Daniel Antonio Berenguer Escay passed away peacefully at his home in Vacaville, California on November 8th, 2019 after almost 2 years of battling consistent cardiac and neurological health problems.

Daniel, more commonly known as "Dan", "Uncle Dan", or "Grandpa" was born in Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay, Philippines to Phillip Escay and Violet Berenguer on May 25, 1945. Growing up in the Philippines alongside his 4 younger siblings, Leo, Oscar, Edwin and Sonia, Dan journeyed to the United States in 1966 to study at Golden Gate University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Accounting. In his time as a student Dan worked multiple odd jobs to provide for himself such as a gas attendant, waiter, McDonald's server and welding for Kaiser steel. Upon earning his degree he met and married his beloved wife, Emy Escay on July 15, 1972 and they soon shared two daughters, Michelle Cruz and Janelle Antoque along with 47 years of love to last a lifetime.

In his time with us, Dan established himself in Vallejo, California as an Accountant for Industrial Indemnity Insurance and retired as a manager of a Union 76 station. Within Dan's sparetime you could consider him a jack-of-all-trades as he found hobbies in boating, photography, baking, juicing, watching nascar, rooting for the San Francisco Giants and more. However, his true passions in life lie within fostering, supporting his family. In his retirement, Dan had an affinity for traveling near and far making his imprint and eating his way through the Dominican Republic, Playa Del Carmen, Cabo San Lucas, and Hawaii. Whether it be driving is SeaRay around Whiskeytown every summer, or taking the Suburban out into the Dunes in Pismo, Dan could always be found with an infectious and embracing smile when surrounded by those he loved.

Dan is survived by his wife, Emy Escay, his two daughters, Michelle Cruz (Rick Cruz), Janelle Antoque (Jaime Antoque), his 5 grandchildren, Kaila, Emily , Danica, Madison, and Caleb, along with his loving family that has been with him every step of the way. As our family navigates through this time we find solace in knowing that his heart to love thousands resides in all of us and in the lives of those he knew and loved.
