David Alessandro Fleming

David A. Fleming, 92, passed away, December 8th, 2024, at his home in Vacaville, California due to natural causes and issues associated with a stroke in early 2019.

He was born May 26, 1932, Los Angeles, California, to J. Leo and Glafira Fleming, with brother Robert and sister Consuelo,

A student at Loyola High School, Los Angles, David earned a bachelor's degree in history at UCLA and later a master's degree in Education.

He was married to his wife of 69 years, Edith A. Fleming, known to everyone as Buff Fleming.

David is a decorated veteran serving in the Air Force from 1955 thru 1976 retiring as Lt. Colonel. He served as an instructor and navigator with eventual service in 22nd MAC flying the C-141 and C-5. He also served a tour in the Vietnam war in 1971 to 1972, in the 16th Special Operations Squadron, flying out of Ubon Thailand, as airborne sensor officer, on AC-130 gunship, Spectre group. He received 11 air Medals, 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses.

David Served as a City Council member for 12 years, 1978 to 1990, and mayor for 12 years, 1990 to 2002. He was a Leader in the League of California Cities, leader in the Association of Bay Area Governments, leader at the Travis Historical Society and Travis Air Force Museum and was instrumental in establishing the Jimmy Doolittle Museum. David was also a member of the Solano Community College Educational Foundation and an active supporter of Solano arts organizations such as the Solano Symphony and North Bay Opera.

He earned his Eagle Scout in troop 55 Los Angeles and has been active in the Boy Scouts of America his entire life. He served as Scoutmaster of Vacaville Troop 488 for many years and was active locally from 1974 to 2017. His 3 sons and 3 grandsons are also eagle scouts. David was a builder and fixer of things, and added a second floor their home while teaching his sons about house construction.

Survived by wife Buff Fleming, sons Matthew, Michael, Richard, and 5 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for David Fleming at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 2, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church; 350 Stinson Avenue, Vacaville, CA 95688. A reception will be held to follow the mass of Christian Burial.

Interment will be held at 2:30 P.M. Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery; 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, California 95620.
