David Curtis Skeen, age 77, was born May 21, 1940 in Detroit Michigan to James Curtis and Beulah Skeen and has joined his beloved wife Jeanette on October 12, 2017 at home surrounded with family by his side after his short battle with cancer.
David is an Air Force veteran of 23 years, traveling the world and providing his technical skills in cryptography, where he earned numerous service medals while providing service to his country. He grew up in Big Stone Gap Virginia. As a child, he learned the sport of golf for relaxation and acquired his loved for music, where he played guitar and performed for many local communities. David while stationed in Japan, learned the craft of Jiu Jitsu where after years of practice was awarded his black belt. A dedicated family man and loving husband enabled him to coach many different children sports teams. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Air Force never left him, as friends and family will attest.
David survived a massive stroke in 1988 which left him paralyzed and unable to communicate effectively. Throughout this time, he had shown those surrounding him how to live with strength, love without conditions, and smile through the tears. The legacy he leaves is one which will be felt for many generations to come. He left this world better than when he entered, and today the sun shines bright with his happiness and peace.
Mr. Skeen is survived by his three children, David I Skeen (Lori), Gregory A. Skeen (Jennifer), Rhonda Y. Barlak (Stephen); Grandchildren, Ashlee (Matt R.) Michael, Shelbi (Matt S.), Kayla, Sydney, and Jeremiah; great grandson, Colton; His special partner in crime Joan V. Barlak; several nieces and nephews as well as many, many friends.
A funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 18 th at Vaca Hills Chapel. Viewing will be prior to service starting at 9:00 A.M.
He will be laid to rest at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 19 th .
