DeLaine Kay Gates was born on July 12, 1958 to Bart and Loretta Bowman. After spending her early childhood in Idaho and Oregon, she grew up in Quincy, Washington with her two brothers,  Art and David.  Shortly after high school she met her first husband and father of her oldest child,  Chris Johnson.  She gave birth to Rachel Johnson in May of 1980.  Chris and DeLaine divorced shortly after. She met her second husband Edward Gates and his 4 year old daughter Mandy in 1983.  After a brief courtship they married and had their son Jason Gates in 1984. DeLaine and Ed had a long, loving marriage of 28 years,  which ended in 2011 when Ed passed away.  During those years DeLaine became an EMT and eventually an RN. Nursing was her calling and she was excellent at it.  After Ed passed , she moved to California with her daughter and son,  and met her last partner,  Ted Swing.  DeLaine had injuries and illnesses which put her on disability and Ted was a wonderful care giver.   Soon after her 63 ^rd birthday  she became very ill with Coronavirus. After a valiant fight,  and being on the ventilator in the ICU for 35 days, she succumbed to the virus on Monday, August 30 ^th , 2021 at 6:29pm. She was surrounded by her loved ones and passed quickly.  She will be remembered for her sweet disposition, her impish grin, and her tenacity.  She is survived by her mother, partner,  brothers, nieces and nephews,  children and grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed.
