Elizabeth "Betty" Sullivan Fountain
Elizabeth "Betty" Sullivan Fountain passed away peacefully surrounded by loved
ones, at her home in Rio Vista, CA. on the evening of September 27, 2023, after
having recently had a wonderful 77th birthday celebration.
Betty was born Elizabeth Ellen Sullivan on September 1, 1946, in Fort Worth, Texas,
to Wiley and Jeanette Sullivan. Shortly after, the family moved to Beaumont, TX,
located in Southeast Texas.
Growing up in Beaumont, she attended South Park High School, where she played the
violin in the high school Orchestra. She graduated from South Park in 1964.
After graduation, she went to work at the Beaumont Enterprise Newspaper. This is
where she met the love of her life, James Fountain who worked in the printing
department. They quickly became a couple and were married on April 14, 1967.
The couple then spent the next 20 years in a neighboring town, Nederland, TX.
During that time, they were blessed with two sons, David and Darrell. Betty spent
most of her time being a mother and housewife, and was actively involved in her
kids school activities.
In 1990, the family relocated to Vacaville, California due to James' job transfer with
Unocal. She went to work for the City of Vacaville, as an Administrative Clerk in the
Planning and Engineering Department. She was appreciated and well-liked by her
Coworkers and Customers. She and James eventually retired in early 2000, and
then later moved to a retirement community in Rio Vista, California.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a friend to many. Betty
was a sweet memorable lady with a strong Texas accent. She was an exceptional
storyteller with a fantastic memory for details. She enjoyed camping with her family
and going on vacationing adventures throughout the United States.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wiley and Janette Sullivan and her husband,
James of nearly 55 years. She is survived by her sons, David Fountain and wife, Dawn,
Darrell Fountain, grandson Lantz (Nederland, Tx), Brother and Sister-in-Law, Wiley and
Mary Lou Sullivan (Conroe,Tx), Nieces, Heather Hughes (Conroe,Tx), Betsy Brown
(Boise, Idaho) and nephew, Brad Sullivan (Spicewood, Tx) and their Families.
While her passing was somewhat expected, it was nevertheless tragic for the entire
family. She will eternally live on in our hearts and be dearly missed everyday.
there will be a viewing and memorial service on Saturday, October 14th at Vaca Hills
Chapel Funeral Home, 524 Elmira Rd, Vacaville, CA. View will be 12:00 - 2:00,
followed by a memorial service at 2:00pm. Burial will be held on Monday Oct 16th,
and will be for the immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Liver Foundation.
