Fernie was a person who did things when he wanted and how he wanted, so in death this is what he chose. After being in the hospital for over a month with an illness, he chose to be taken off of life support and on the morning of Saturday, February 19, 2022 with great sadness, surrounded by family, he closed his eyes and the Lord took him home.

Fernie was a very loving person with his family and friends. His family always was first. He would do anything and everything for them and didn't ever care about the consequences of his actions. He loved to be around his family especially his family from Southern California. He was born in Fresno, CA and raised in Pico Rivera, Ca. and moved to Vacaville to be with his mother and two sisters. Life wasn't easy coming from a city to rural Vacaville but he had a large family with aunts, uncles and cousins and he somehow adjusted.

Fernie enjoyed spending time with his wife, family gatherings, fishing, driving around looking for old model cars "bombs", to fix up and make lowriders and spending time with his friends. He was so very happy when his LA Rams came back to Los Angeles and happily got to see them win the Super Bowl this year.

Fernie is survived by his wife, Arlene, his children Nisha, Fernando Gaona Jr., Diana, Yvette Vidal, Duran, Ashley, Richard and Manual. He had 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. His mother Ramona Hernandez, his brothers Anthony and Jerry, his sister Nanette Chavez and Gina Stroymeyer and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Amador Gaona, his brother Alfonso Gaona, his daughter Lorraine, his grandson Jacob Moses Gaona and his nephew Frank Raymond Chavez.

A viewing will be held Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home 524 Elmira Road in Vacaville from 5 to 8 pm. A Funeral Service will follow on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 11am at New Hope Christian Fellowship 4910 Allison Parkway, Vacaville. Burial will follow at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.
