Obituary

We are very sad to announce the passing of Gary George Smith. Gary passed away after a short illness on July 24, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Park Smith and Gladys May Libbey Smith, and his first wife, Anna Mae Muller.

Gary was born June 12, 1944 in Los Angeles, CA. He grew up in Hayward, CA and graduated from Hayward High School in 1962. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He served as a crew chief on C130's aircraft. After serving in the Airforce, he worked as an electrician at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. He retired from the shipyard after 27 years.

In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. In 2005, Gary and Arlene were married. Throughout 18 years of marriage they shared many fun and happy memories together. Gary enjoyed Arlene's larger family and participated in all the family gatherings. He loved to read and visited the library almost daily. Gary volunteered many hours at the Vacaville McBride Senior Center. He enjoyed living at the Lemon Tree Mobile Home Park where he served as the Recycling captain. Gary also loved horses and rode his beloved horse, Amber, in many parades. He was a long-time member of the Wild Horse Wranglers Club.

He is survived by his wife Arlene, daughter Marry Ann Dunkle, son David Smith, his granddaughter Stephanie Razo (Chris) and his brother Murray (Marilyn).

Daughters Nancy Foster (Mike), Kelly Donald (Tim), grandchildren Jessica Hatfield (Tony), Karli Quintos (Joey), Breanna Corbett, Courtney Donald and Michael Donald and his ten great grandchildren: Elijah, Zachary, Katelynn, Joey, Aubree, Kennedie, Zoe, Alani, Jaxon, and Adam.

Services for Gary will be held at the Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home 524 Elmira Road, Vacaville, CA 95687. Pallbearers are: Chris Razo, Elijah Hatfield, Joey Quintos, Logan Hansen, Michael Donald, and Tony Hatfield. The viewing will held Thursday, August 10th from 5-7p.m. Service will be held Friday, August 11th at 8:30 a.m. at Vaca Hills Chapel. Interment will be at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. The family graciously invites everyone to attend a Celebration of Life in Gary's honor at the Lemon Tree Mobile Home Park Clubhouse 1 Lemon Tree Circle, Vacaville, CA at 1:00 P.M
