With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved father George E.
Sawtelle, 87. George passed away on August 6, 2022 in Vacaville, CA at his daughter's
home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 4, 1934 in
Oakland, CA, son of the late George C. Sawtelle and Ellen Angerina. He was a
graduate of Vacaville High School, class of 1952. George was a veteran of the United
States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1955. He had a love for cars and
worked at Dick Lewis Ford for 40 plus years. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing.
He was a huge sports fan who enjoyed watching the A's and Raiders. He also enjoyed
meeting friends for breakfast at Wren's Cafe and working on his cherished 1970 Ford
Bronco. He was an original member of the Vacaville Piscador De Siruela, a car club
started in the 50's by his late brother-in-law Bernie Vasquez, as well as an original
member of the 4 wheel drive Cliffhangers of Vacaville. He also was a member of the
Knights of Columbus, ushered at Sunday Mass, and volunteered at the food bank.
George is preceded in death by his parents George and Ellen, as well as his wife
Veronica. He is survived by his loving family: daughters Debra Boivin, Mary (Pam Kohl)
Boivin, Myra (Von) Steven; sister Myra Vasquez; step-sister Mabrey Scott; his
grandchildren Emily Chirila, Ashley (Jonathan) Parrott, Joseph (Whitney) Steven;
great-grandchildren Gianna and Hudson Parrott; as well as numerous cousins, nieces,
nephews, extended family and friends. A Catholic Mass in George's honor will be held
on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 350 Stinson
Ave., Vacaville, CA. Military honors will immediately follow at the Sacramento Valley
National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd., Dixon, CA. In addition, there will be a reception at
St. Mary's Parish Hall following the mass.
