Giezl "Gie" Lopez Asuncion lived a beautiful, adventurous, compassionate life. A woman composed of eternal strength, class, and servitude, she provided comfort and solace while asking for little in return. The love of her life, Roy, adored her every single day for over 29 years and together they lovingly raised their children, Faye Avery (26), Luc (24), Moira (21), and Mackenzie (10).

Giezl was born on November 27. 1971 in Ilocos Sur, Philippines before her parents, Gloria and Gregorio Lopez. She was a big sister to her late brother Gerrick and sister Gladys Lopez. She graduated college at St. Francis University in Baguio City, Philippines where she completed a BS in Nursing. In 2002, Giezl and her family moved to the US where Giezl and her husband raised their children in Minnesota for the next 14 years and then continued to raise them in California in 2016.

Giezl was an exceptional ICU nurse for 30 years. Her gifted hands nurtured and served countless patients in renowned hospitals in the Philippines, Minnesota, and California. Her dedication, comforting demeanor, and skill was admired and was praised by her colleagues around her. Her legacy as a nurse will be forever talked about and missed.

When Giezl was not in the hospital taking care of her patients that she cared for as if they were her own, she was enjoying life with her family at home. Giezl loved: watching movies, cooking the best shrimp scampi, taking road trips with her family, eating good food, hosting family and friends during holidays, traveling, decorating the family home during holidays, the Carpenters, slightly sweet baked goods, Foley rosé wine, cute containers, her husband, having her kids all together in the house, spending time with her chosen sister May, laughing, spending time in the backyard that her husband built specially for her, treating her children's friends as her own, Jo Koy, autumn, and the color red.

Of all of the things she loved, her favorite pastime was going to Costco. She loved roaming the aisles of Costco, taking her time to shop. Her family and best friends share fond memories with Giezl at Costcos around the country that they will forever cherish.

Giezl's time on earth was unexpectedly cut short on September 18, 2022 due to an extremely rare, aggressive, late stage, uterine cancer that was only identified a week prior to her passing. Despite the grave prognosis, Giezl fought to be able to spend her last moments in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her family and best friends. Giezl went to heaven in the arms of her family that early morning.

To Avery, she leaves her strength and nurturing empathy to those around. To Luc, she leaves her kindness and sense of calming energy. To Moira she leaves her strong willed personality and resilience. To Mackenzie, she leaves her sweetness, spunk, and adventurous heart. To her husband Roy, she leaves her unconditional love, partnership, and their four beautiful children who love their parents more than words could ever describe.

There will be a viewing on Saturday, the 24th from 12pm-6pm and Sunday, the 25th 12pm-3pm, followed by a memorial service on Monday, the 26th at 10am. There will be a reception to follow.
