Harold William "Bill" Johansen

25 Dec 1948 - 25 May 2023

Vacaville, CA

A celebration of life for Harold William "Bill" Johansen, 74, will be from 1:00-3:30pm, Wednesday, 7 June, at Ulatis Community Center. 1000 Ulatis Drive Vacaville, CA 95687. Private burial will be at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Harold passed away the morning of May 25 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Harold, known by many as Bill, was born on December 25, 1948, to Harold Sr. and Helen Johansen (Spaulding) in Oakland, CA. His family moved to Fremont when he was 8 years old and he graduated from Washington High School in 1967. Bill enlisted into the Air Force in 1968 and after basic military training was stationed at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia where he was a C-130 crew-chief. He was sent to Vietnam in 1969 where he served as an OV-10 crew-chief. After serving his enlistment on active duty, he settled in Fairfield and later Vacaville, CA where he served as a C-141 crew-chief as an Air Reserve Technician at Travis Air Force Base until he retired from the Air Force in 1992.

Bill was often associated with motorcycles and his cherished 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner. He loved driving his Roadrunner to car shows and giving friends and family rides in it. More times than not, the roads were "slippery" wherever he went…especially after a car show at Foster's Freeze.

Bill was a loving father and grandfather. He was fun and good natured, always the life of the party. Even cats and dogs would naturally gravitate to him.  He enjoyed traveling around the world but was most at peace either riding his bicycle or going for walks around his neighborhood which he affectionally referred to as Camelot.

Bill is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Leta Johansen, stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Kevin and Theresa Ash; sisters and brothers-in-law, Tina and Gary Rafferty, Sally and Don Chipman. He also is survived by two granddaughters, and a host of extended family and friends.
