Hazel was born in Waterloo, Iowa, the middle child with older brother AJ and younger sister Elsie (both preceded in death). She always attributed her long life to growing on a farm, working hard, eating fresh food and the occasional glass of wine.

She married Richard Walters (deceased) in 1938 and they welcomed their only child Sondra in 1940. They moved to California during WWII to work in the Kaiser Shipyards, where she became a welder on Liberty Ships. When touring one of the ships in her early nineties she said, "I didn't weld this deck plate, the weld is too nice."

She had many other roles throughout her life including Chinchilla rancher, yardage and craftsman tool saleswoman at Sears, lover of all things Disney, master seamstress and official gravy maker at all holiday dinners.

She never had a hard world for anyone unless there was a politician on T.V trying to mess with her Social Security.

But the crowning achievement of her life well lived was that of mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She leaves behind a legacy and family including daughter Sandy; grandsons Bruce (Jennifer), Jay (Kimberly) deceased and Kevin (Stephanie); great grandchildren, Trista, Ryan, Logan (Jessi), Austin, Abbey, Sarah, Mason, Emma and Nora; great, great grandchildren Knox and Crew; nieces Deborah and Roberta Casey; and numerous others who were loved and touched by her kind spirit.

The family would like to thank the staff at Vacaville Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center for their love, care and attention they provided Hazel the last 5 ½ years.
