Obituary

Jacqueline – "Jacque," was born to her loving parents Emery and Frances Shields on March 30th, 1948 in Hannibal, Missouri.  Jacque was her parent's middle daughter, and she enjoyed many adventures growing up along the Mississippi River with her older sister, Jan, and younger sister, Jean.  Emery and Frances instilled an admirable strength and work ethic into their daughters.  After losing her father at a young age, Jacque saw her mother work tirelessly to provide for their family.  Jacque graduated from Hannibal High School in 1966.  Working in her mom's restaurant, and learning from the best, she became highly skilled in waitressing and hospitality, which were the seeds that grew into a 30+ year waitressing career.

In the late 60's, Jacque moved across the country to California and settled in the Bay Area.  Working at a Safeway deli, Joe, a handsome, dark-haired butcher caught her eye.  Joe and Jacque fell in love and were married on December 14th, 1969. Joe and Jacque enjoyed bowling on men's and women's teams.  They poured themselves into a restaurant they co-owned with some friends in Orinda, CA, and enjoyed trips to Lake Tahoe, and Reno, Nevada.  The love they shared brought one beloved daughter, Kimberly, into the world in 1978.  Three years after her birth, Joe and Jacque divorced. For the sake of their daughter, they chose to remain in the same home and raise her together.  Jacque battled drug and alcohol addiction, which she eventually overcame through a newfound faith in Jesus Christ.  The dedication Joe and Jacque shared to raise their daughter ended up being a glue that kept them together through the years.  Joe cared for Jacque as she recovered from a work-related injury, and she then cared for him after he had a stroke.  Their love for each other had remained, and they remarried in their home on August 29th, 2014, 33 years after divorcing.

In the last 20 years of her life, Jacque enjoyed lavishing her love upon her husband, daughter, son-in-law, and her most special treasures – her three grandchildren, as well as other family and friends.  Jacque was by her husband's side when he passed away on January 4th, 2023.  After years of suffering through chronic pain, and fighting a variety of diseases, Jacque entered the glorious presence of Jesus on August 30th, 2023.  We are grateful she is no longer suffering, and that she is home, healed, free, and living eternally with all those who have gone before her.

Jacque is preceded in death by her beloved parents: Emery and Frances, her younger sister: Jean, her nieces: Allison, and Gretchen, her beloved husband: Joseph, and so many other family and friends.  She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly, son-in-law John, and her three grandchildren: Janelle, Evan, and Bella.  She is also survived by her older sister and husband: Jan and Paul Baker, her brother-in-law and wife: Frank and Nancy DeAbreu, her sister-in-law and husband: Francie and Darrell Cooper, and her faithful and loyal family friend: Gary Coppi.  As well, she is survived by her many nieces and nephews: Gina, Lynelle, Christina, George Jr., David, and Michael.  Jacque lived her life loving others well, and she will be dearly missed until we join her again in glory.

Jacque will be laid to rest with her husband Joe, at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.  A celebration of life gathering will be held later this year.  Family and friends will be notified of details by her daughter Kimberly Baldwin.
