James Fountain was born on June 29, 1937, in Newton Texas, and passed away Sunday, February 20, 2022 at the age of 84. He had suffered for many years with renal disease necessitating frequent Dialysis, which caused a great deal of pain. The family was stunned by his sudden passing.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Betty Fountain of Rio Vista, CA; his sons David and wife Dawn Fountain of Fairfield, CA; Darrell Fountain of Rio Vista, CA; and grandson Lantz Fountain of Nederland, Texas. Other relatives include: brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wiley and Mary Lou Sullivan of Conroe, Texas, and their families.

James served his country in the Army from 1960-1966. He was deployed for 2 years active duty in Germany, and then spent the following 4 years in the Army Reserves.

James met his future wife Betty in 1966 while they both worked at the Beaumont Enterprise Newspaper in Beaumont, Texas. They were married in 1967 and would have been married for 55 years on April 14, 2022. The couple were born and raised in Texas.

In 1969, James went to work for Union 76 Refinery in Port Neches, Texas. However, in 1990, the refinery was shut down, and they were transferred along with many other families from Texas, to the refinery in Rodeo, located in Northern California. James worked as an Operator, for nearly 30 years, until he retired, when the company changed ownership. All fellow transplants remained close to one another, even living in the same neighborhoods. Most of them have since moved back to Texas.

In 1999 Betty retired, and the couple moved back to Texas; however, their sons stayed behind in California. Nevertheless, the move was short lived, and only lasted until 2008. They truly missed their sons, and therefore moved back to California. They've been there ever since, but make a yearly visit to Texas to visit family and friends.

James was a good, loyal and patriotic man. He was an avid sports fan, especially Texas teams, namely the Dallas Cowboys. He was faithful Husband, a beloved Father/ Grandfather / Uncle, and a proud Veteran. His unexpected passing was tragic. Still, he will eternally live in our hearts and be missed every day.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 8, 2022 from 5:00 p.m until 8:00 p.m at Vaca Hills Chapel, 524 Elmira Road in Vacaville, California. Funeral will be at 6:00 p.m during the visitation. Burial will follow on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 11:30 a.m at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery with military honors.
