James "Jim" Gregory Danielson, 77, of Vacaville, died at home with his wife Dianne, and daughter Kailyn, beside him on December 1, 2025 after a long battle with cancer.

Jim was born on May 15, 1948 to Jean [nee Mangles] and Edgar Danielson both descendants of early Suisun Valley settlers. The family first lived in Vallejo, then Fairfield, and finally moved to Jean's childhood home on the Mangels' ranch. Jim got an early start in the workforce, working with his dad delivering fuel from the age of 10. He enjoyed riding bikes with friends and running around the orchards, picking fruit and digging for treasures in the dirt. Jim graduated from Chico State and got his teaching credential before moving back to the Solano area to start his career.

Known as "Mr. D." to students and staff, Jim became a beloved elementary school teacher at Elmira and Callison elementary schools. He brought donuts and coffee for office staff every Friday and played pranks with other teachers to keep things lively at Elmira. He was known for engaging his classes with "silent ball" and "the map game," building an entire Oregon trail scenefor open house,and staying in at lunch to play board games with students. He had impeccable penmanship and handwrote all of his worksheets for his classes. He did everything in his power to help his students succeed.

He met his cherished wife, and fellow teacher, Dianne [nee Cretcher] in a serendipitous turn of events, and they were married for 38 wonderful years. They were devoted to one another, and even co-taught in Jim's classroom for 3 years after Dianne retired. Jim showed Dianne the
redwoods, and she introduced him to the ocean. They spent many vacations hiking and picnicking in beautiful old growth forests and beaches, and sipping wine in the Napa and Suisun valleys. Jim stocked up on jewelry each year that he kept in his sock drawer so that he would
never miss a holiday, anniversary, or excuse to give Dianne sparkles, and there were always bouquets of flowers to accompany each gift.

Jim was a devoted father and a generous friend. He spent hours teaching his daughter, Kailyn, how to blend colors in her coloring books, attended countless dance recitals, and sent her handwritten letters after she moved out. He never needed to be the center of attention, but his eyes always sparkled when he was going to crack a joke, and he gave the best bear hugs. Jim was predeceased by his parents, sister Laurie Bailey and sister-in-law Gloria Pickering. He is survived by his beloved wife Dianne, daughter Kailyn Danielson [Ryan], son Greg Heinze [Steven], sister Kathy Sbaffi [Dave], brother-in-law Bill Cretcher [Tilly] and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim will be deeply missed and his memory will be treasured by loved ones. He will be celebrated in a memorial on January 8th at 1pm at Village 360 in Suisun Valley. All are welcome. If interested in attending, please text (707) 689-7134.
