James H. Simpson, 87, of Fairfield, California, passed away peacefully at his home on March 31, 2025. He was born on March 12, 1938, in the Appalachian region of North Carolina.

James lived a full and rich life, embodying the American dream through hard work and determination. The strong sense of community and the natural beauty of his Appalachian upbringing shaped his character throughout his life. He was always proud of his roots, often seen wearing his signature overalls, a testament to his "hillbilly" heritage from the North Carolina hills. At a young age, James joined the United States Air Force, where he learned the valuable skills of a welder. This trade became a cornerstone of his career and allowed him to build a life for his family. Later, James found his true passion as a walnut farmer in the fertile Suisun Valley, where he cultivated the land and enjoyed the fruits of his labor. He was known for his dedication to his farm and his love for the land. Beyond his farming, James was also a skilled handyman, known for his ability to fix anything.

His resourcefulness and problem-solving skills were admired by all who knew him. In his later years, he took up the tradition of making moonshine, a nod to his Appalachian heritage. James was known to be easy-going, funny, and, yes, a bit stubborn, a trait that often served him well. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosa Simpson, and his son, Norman Simpson. He is survived by his loving daughter, Claire Phillips, and his cherished grandchildren, Krystal Phillips, TJ Phillips, and Kevin Phillips.

James passed away from natural causes related to old age.
