Janice Marie (Sitterding) Cook, age 77, died peacefully at her home in Fairfield on May 29, 2025, after a courageous 20-month long battle with mesothelioma.
Born April 8, 1948, Janice was the second of five children born to Jack R. Sitterding (1919-1984) and June (Davis) Sitterding (1926-2011). Janice was raised in Hayward, CA and married Gary Lowrey in 1968. They had three children together while living in Union City, CA and moved to Fairfield in 1977.
Janice married Randy Cook in 1991. During their 34-year marriage, Janice and Randy followed Randy's job around the country and made their home in several cities including Fairfield, CA, LeClaire, IA, Oak Ridge, TN, St, Joseph, MI, Kennewick, WA and Aiken, SC. Janice shared her love of studying the Bible, quilting, scrapbooking, stained glass and genealogy with friends she made with every move. Janice was happiest as she traveled the country with Randy to visit extended family, friends and historical sites, including several Presidential Libraries.
A resident of Fairfield for the past fourteen years, Janice's greatest source of happiness and inspiration was her family. She loved and was loved by her devoted husband, Randy Cook. Janice was the proud mother of three children, Kimberly Willard of Fairfield, CA, Aaron Lowrey (Stephanie) of Cabot, AR, and Sean Lowrey (Amy) of Woodland, CA and cherished her six grandchildren, Jacob Lowrey, Cameron Lowrey, Andrew Lowrey, Jack Lowrey, Christian Willard, and Noah Willard. Janice treasured time spent with her siblings and their families, Ron Sitterding and his wife Donna of Rome, GA, Phyllis Sitterding of Chickasha, OK, Jack Sitterding, Jr. and his wife Roberta of Hinsdale, IL, and Nancy McAleer and her husband Bob of Hayward, CA. Janice leaves treasured memories with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends spread across the country.
A private cremation has taken place to honor Janice's wishes, with a memorial service scheduled for Thursday, June 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home, 524 Elmira Road in Vacaville, CA.
Janice Cook touched the lives of many through her kind-heartedness, compassion, and constant acts of love. There is no doubt her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
