Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jess Chavez Jr. on February 1, 2026. He passed peacefully and is now free from pain and suffering, carried home by Jesus.

Jess was born on April 23, 1964, in Oakland, California, to Jess Sr. and Josephine Chavez. He grew up in Hayward, California, where he attended and graduated from Sunset High School in 1982.

On March 12, 1988, Jess began his career with the United States Post Office, where he worked faithfully until his passing. During his years there, he formed many lasting friendships and was well respected by those who worked alongside him.

Jess enjoyed many things in life, including camping, bowling, watching football, and spending time with family and friends. He was a loyal San Francisco 49ers fan and enjoyed relaxing with a couple of beers now and then. Jess especially loved barbecuing for his family, where he became known for making the best tri-tip and bacon white rice. Family gatherings were very important to him, and he always enjoyed being surrounded by loved ones.

Of all the things Jess loved most, spending time with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter brought him the greatest joy. Family often shared stories about Jess as a child, including one from a cousin who used to babysit him and his brothers, saying, "Oh that JJ, he was really spoiled!"

Jess was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nanette Chavez; his children, Jess Chavez III (wife Constance) and Monica Reyes; his grandchildren, Leinette Enriquez, Angelina Enriquez, Ernesto Enriquez, and Jess Chavez IIII; and his great-granddaughter, Marieli Ascencio.

He is also survived by his two brothers, Robert Chavez (wife Judy) and Anthony Chavez (wife Veronica), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Over the years, Jess formed many friendships, and all who knew him will cherish his memory. His family will forever hold the memories of Jess in their hearts.

Jess was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Chavez; his son, Frank Raymond Chavez; and his brothers-in-law, Alfonso and Fernando Gaona.

The family appreciates all the love, prayers, and support that have been shown during this difficult time.
