John M. Howell passed away on Friday, January 13, 2023. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, uncle and caring friend to many. His sphere of influence and impact on the community around him was well known.

He is remembered by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 50 years Vivian, daughter Jennifer and son Brian. His grandchildren Jessica, Isaiah, Cassidy and Carson. In addition, many nieces and nephews as well.

John was raised in the bay area, graduated from Marina High School and would always tell stories about growing up on Churchill St. in San Leandro.  The friends he made there remained his great friends until this day.

John moved his family from San Leandro to Vacaville in the 1970s while working for Lucky Stores as a warehouseman for 31 years. He enjoyed golfing and chatting with friends on a regular basis, watching the Oakland Raiders, S.F. 49ers, Oakland A's, and Giants games. He enjoyed camping trips to Oregon and regular fishing and hunting with family and friends. John attended his children's sporting events and music concerts and participated in Cub Scouts. He coached soccer and Little League and always supported his children's extracurricular activities.

After retirement, John worked as a driver for La Mesa RV and for a local dairy. He regularly attended his grandchildren's sports and school events. He loved cooking and sharing his famous smoked salmon, beef jerky, salsa and salad dressing. When he wasn't cooking or gardening, he enjoyed reading, sharing fresh vegetables with friends and neighbors that he grew in his garden. He also was a member and enjoyed attending dinners and events at the Dixon Boat Club. John was a "larger than life" presence; a wonderful father, brother and friend who will be dearly missed.

Services for John Howell will be held on February 11, 2023 at 11am-12:30pm at the Vaca Hills Chapel, 524 Elmira Rd. Vacaville CA 95687

A small reception will be held following the services from 1:00pm to 5:00 pm at the Sunrise Banquet Event Pavilion on 600 Orange Dr. Vacaville CA 95687
