With deep sadness and expectant hope that we will meet again in Heaven, we announce that our beloved Papa Joe stepped into glory on January 4th, 2023.  Joseph passed away at his care home in Pittsburg, California with his wife Jacque by his side.

Joseph was born on August 25th, 1941 in Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal to Luiz and Izaura DeAbreu.  His family immigrated to the United States when Joseph was a young boy, and they settled in the Bay Area.  Joseph started working as a teenager to help provide for his family, and his dedication and work ethic followed him into adulthood.  He got into the grocery industry and was a butcher, eventually becoming Meat Department Manager for Safeway for almost 40 years.

Joseph was drafted into the United States Army on February 7th, 1964.  He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and the Expert Marksmanship Badge M-14.  He was Honorably discharged in February of 1966.

Joseph and his wife, Jacque were married on December 14th, 1969.  The love they shared brought one beloved daughter, Kimberly, into the world in 1978.

Joseph loved to golf and bowl.  He played in many tournaments for both sports over the years.  He loved to laugh and spend time with family and friends.

Joseph was preceded in death by his brothers and parents in the following order:  George, Father Luiz, Anthony, Mother Izaura, Johnny, Jimmy, Fernandes, and Louie.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Jacque DeAbreu.  Daughter, Kimberly Baldwin and son-in-law John Baldwin, as well as their children, his heart treasures: Janelle, Evan, and Bella.  His remaining siblings: Frank DeAbreu, Mary Tak, and Manuel Abreu. His sister-in-law: Francie Cooper, and her husband Darrell.  His best friend, Gary Coppi.  His nieces and nephews: Lynelle, Christina, George, David, and Michael.
