Lawrence Elmer Lane (89) of Vacaville - passed away on May 30th, during a brief stay at John Muir Memorial Hospital in Walnut Creek, due to heart failure.  A Korean War Era Veteran, he will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, uncle, neighbor and big-hearted friend to everyone who knew him.
Born & raised in San Francisco Ca, Larry enlisted in the United States Navy after graduating Lowell High School in 1952.  He served as a sheet metal specialist aboard a submarine tender (USS Sperry) and a mine-sweeping vessel that patrolled just outside the Golden Gate.

Following military service, Larry found work selling insurance, then as a tanker fuel truck driver, and lastly as a Teamster - driving for Safeway.  He married the love of his life, Sonja Yeakey and the couple moved to Vacaville in 1970 where they raised their daughter Laura on a small ranch with lots of animals and friends.  After retiring from Safeway in 1992, with 32+ years safe driving, Larry dedicated another 15 years of his time, energy and personal efforts towards helping disabled Vacaville residents via the Senior Center's "Ride with Pride" program.  Never accepting a dime, Larry used his meticulously maintained Cadillac Fleetwood's to transport those most in need (with style).  Many fond friendships were developed, and Sonja often joined-in.
Avid 49r's and Giant Fans, the couple regularly hosted super-bowl and world-series parties.

Larry was preceded in death by:  his parents Henry & Wanda Lane, sister Michelle & brother Michael.  Then 2 ½ years ago by his wife Sonja. He is survived by Daughter Laura Rice, Grand-sons: Justin Rice & Brenden Rice (of Vacaville), and numerous loving nieces & nephews.
Pre-arrangements were made, and Larry's ashes will be privately laid to rest next to Sonja's during the 4th of July holiday at the Sacramento Valley Veterans Cemetery in Dixon.
