Lewis Alan
Wilson
d. Jan 10, 2022
Lewis Alan Wilson was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father on January 10, 2022. He passed away at the age of 88 after a lengthy illness due to advancing dementia in Vacaville. He was born in Newport, Rhode Island on September 19, 1933 to George & Eleanor Wilson. He grew up in Newport with his parents, who both preceded him in death along with his late siblings – George Jr, Emily, Leroy and Margie. He is survived by his sister Barbara Smith and brother Robert Wilson. At 17 he enlisted in the US Air Force where he did his basic training in New York. Later, he was stationed at Travis AFB where he met and married Rebecca Poff and his only child Deborah was born. While living in Suisun he served as a volunteer firefighter. During his 21 years in the Air Force he was also stationed in Taiwan, Southern California, Florida, Okinawa and South Dakota. Upon retirement in 1972 he moved to Fairfield and worked for Recognition Equipment as a computer technician for 10 years. He began working for Tharco Container Co in 1982 as a machine operator and after 12 years he fully retired and moved to his vacation home in Truckee. He enjoyed snow skiing, fishing and talking with his Truckee neighbors. In 1999 he began an annual block party for his neighbors to get to know one another. This continued to grow each year until 2020 when it was cancelled because of COVID. Helping his neighbors with snow removal, pine needle cleanup or turning on their heat when coming for the weekend earned him the honorary title of "The Mayor".
He began attending Valley Church in 1995 when his daughter & her family moved to Vacaville. He was active in their lives attending church with them most weekends and attending his grandchildren's school and sports activities. He was active in the church ushering, helping with monthly Men's Breakfast and service projects to help those in need.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah and her husband, Scott and his grandchildren Kevin, Tim and Corinne (and husband Matthew). He was preceded in death by granddaughter Heather.
