Louis John Theodore Bloesch, Jr. was born October 6, 1930, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, to Louis
Bloesch, Sr. and Grace Marie Bloesch. He was the youngest of three children. He lived in
Drumright, Oklahoma for most of his childhood until his family moved to Watsonville,
California in 1945. His folks bought a small farm on Freedom Blvd., and were neighbors to
Ernest and Viola Brewer, who had a pretty young daughter, and on January 1, 1950, Louis
married "the girl next door," Mattie Gertrude (Trudy) Brewer. Together they raised four
daughters, Sally, Margie, Edith, and Loretta.
Louis and Trudy were raised in different churches, and neither liked the other's church, so
eventually they took Bible studies and joined the Seventh-day Adventist church in the early
1950s. Louis was adamant that his daughters attend SDA schools, and in 1967 they made the
move to Angwin, California so the girls could attend school at Pacific Union College Prep and
Elementary. Louis worked as an auto mechanic at Zumwalt Ford in St. Helena for 17 years, and
also briefly worked at the Napa Ford dealer, and at PUC in the parts store and garage. In the mid
1980s, Louis started working full time out of his garage at home. Louis and Trudy lived very
humbly, and worked hard to see that their daughters had a Christian education. Louis worked all
day at his job, then would come home and work on cars in the evenings and on Sundays to make
ends meet. There were times when he would recruit one or more of the girls to help him with the
car work. The girls grew up knowing how to change a tire, or jump start or push start a car, or
just call Dad to come rescue them when a car broke down.
Louis was a deacon in the SDA church for many years, and he also was a lesson teacher in the
primary division for several years. He and Trudy were also very generous in helping many
students with tuition, or a home cooked meal, and their home was always open to anyone who
needed something. When the girls were growing up, the house was often filled with many of
their friends sharing meals and eating Trudy's homemade rolls, and playing Rook into the wee
hours of Sunday morning. Louis would always make sure the kids made it home safely.
Louis loved to share his faith in God, and would recount many times the miracles God worked in
his life in order to give him the money needed to educate his girls, and help support the church
and gospel work. He was a great story teller, and even when you had heard the story before, it
was worth listening to him tell it again.
Louis' mother moved into their home and lived there for many years. Their granddaughter,
Cyndee also lived with them all her adult life. She helped take care of them, as well as them
taking care of her. They were like three peas in a pod. The three of them moved to Chateau
Calistoga Mobile Home park in 2013. Due to Alzheimer's Trudy was moved to a residential care
home in 2016, and Louis missed her dearly, so in October of 2020, he moved into the residential
care home with Trudy.
We lost our Dad on January 13. He was 90 years old. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis
and Grace Bloesch, his brother George Bloesch, and his sister Mildred Farmer. He is survived by
his wife of 71 years, Trudy Bloesch, his daughters and sons-in-law Sally and Linden Beardsley,
Margie and Jim Penkala, Edi and Keith Wharton, and Loretta and Chuck Herman, grandkids
Cyndee Beardsley, Joe (Abigail) Beardsley, Tawni Wharton, and Tristan (Amanda) Wharton,
and great-grandson Fox Wharton, and many step-grandchildren.
We all wish we could hear one more of Dad's stories, but we have numerous good and fun
memories that will stay with us until we meet him again on that glorious day when Jesus comes
again to take us all home to spend eternity together. What a day that will be!
