Obituary

Marcella Jean Stuhr (Gross), 97, of Vacaville, California passed away peacefully on August, 30, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Charles Stuhr (February 9, 2014). Marcy was born on April 19, 1928, in Burwell, Nebraska to Rose and Joseph John Gross. She grew up mostly in Nampa, Idaho. After high school, she worked for the Bohemian Brewery and Nampa Chamber of Commerce before being swept off her feet by Charles Stuhr, an aspiring lawyer. After a passionate 3-month courtship they got married and moved to Quantico, Virginia for Charlie's military service in the Marines. They subsequently returned to San Francisco where Marcy and Charlie raised 5 children in San Francisco and Daly City (fog capital of the world). However, Marcy always said she was a country girl at heart. This may be why she called the family cabin in Twain Harte her "happy place".

Marcy celebrated holidays with gusto, was an accomplished seamstress and was known for being extraordinarily organized – she knew exactly where everything was in her house. She had a beautiful voice and in her early life she sang in a trio. Marcy enjoyed golfing and playing pedro with family – when cajoled into it 😊 – but she dominated in dominoes.

Marcy was a dedicated homemaker. She was a member of Holy Angels parish and volunteered at the grade school for many years, inviting the nuns over for dinner and a drink! She hosted many holiday and egg nog parties for friends and family. She was the creative force behind many Saints & Slaves social get-togethers. She could drive from San Francisco to Seattle or Nampa in record time – setting many speed records!

She is survived by daughters, Sheryl McCarthy (Kevin), Robyn Stuhr, Karyn Pasquier (Paul), Ellyn Derby (Jim) and son Chuck Stuhr (Emilia), 10 grandchildren, Bryant Peterson (Jamie), Marcie Geary (Tim), Nick McCarthy (Emma), Ben Pasquier (Jennifer), Mark Pasquier (Amanda), Scott, Danielle and Steve Derby, and Charlie and Reggie Stuhr. Her great-grandchildren include Katie and Madison Peterson, Jax and Bronson Geary, and Louis Pasquier.

In honor of Marcy, a service will be held on October 17, 2025, at Vaca Hills Chapel in Vacaville, where friends and family can gather to celebrate and commemorate her life.
