Mary King
Coons Undlin
d. Mar 19, 2018
Vacaville
Devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and loyal friend. On March 19, 2018, surrounded by loving family and friends, our dear Mary was born to eternal life.
Mary was preceded by her parents Robert Ball Coons and Mary Cecelia King Coons, as well as younger brother Michael Sherwood Coons. She is survived by her husband Jesse Peter Undlin, and by her children Jesse Peter Undlin Jr. and his former wife Laura Helen Moran, Cecelia Anne Undlin Quinn and her husband Thomas Joseph Quinn, Paul Michael Undlin and his wife Heidi Darice Frye Undlin, and Maureen Elizabeth Undlin Walton and her husband Daniel Tucker Walton. She is further survived by brothers Robert Ball Coons, Jr.(Bob) and Edward Sherwood Coons(Ned).
Her ten grandchildren, ranging from age six to twenty-six, are grieving over the loss of their beloved "Gran, Grandy and Ga Ga" (as she was called by them). They will miss her deeply as she was their role model of kindness, strength, good behavior, citizenship and faith.
Mary had a very fulfilling life, beginning November 23, 1936 in South Orange, NJ. She lived in Denver, CO as a teenager and graduated as a Pi Beta Phi sorority member from the University of Arizona in 1956. Her teaching career began in San Mateo, CA where she met her husband and was married on January 21, 1961. Together, they raised their four children during Jess' 20-year Air Force career. In 1978, Mary returned to teaching at Center School, Travis Unified School District, retiring in 2000. Since then, she has been actively involved with many charitable organizations, most notably the American Cancer Society as the county coordinator for the Road to Recovery program which finds rides for cancer patients to and from doctor appointments. Mary volunteered as a tutor for people and families who need to improve their English speaking, writing and reading skills. This service is sponsored by the Solano County library as the Adult Literacy Program. In addition, she became a mentor for new teachers. Mary was also a dedicated volunteer at her beloved St. Mary's Church, a member of St. Mary's choir for many years and a passionate member of her wonderful book club.
Please join Mary and her family at a remembrance Mass on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 10:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, 350 Stinson Ave., Vacaville, CA. Reception to follow.
