Obituary

Merlin Duane Campbell, 87, of Vacaville, was born to Ernest and Gladys Campbell.  He grew up in Iowa and Oakland, California.  He joined the Air Force and served in Washington, DC where he met and married Doris Edwards Campbell on March 2, 1951.  They resided in Pleasant Hill, California for 30 years while raising their family.  He retired from the Berkeley Fire Department in 1964 and from the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Dispatch office in 1986.  Merlin and Doris spent retirement in Leisure Town in Vacaville where he was active in many clubs including Lawn Bowling, Vacaville Elks Lodge #2638, Men's Club, R.V. and Travel Clubs.

Merlin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris.  He is survived by his five children, Duane Campbell (Karen), Sharon Masterson (Brian), Laura Fussell (Robert), Daryl Campbell, and Julie Warnock (Greg).  Also, ten grandchildren, Jeff, Jenna, Lauren, Aaron, Sean, Matthew, Kelliann, Jamie, Erin and Kendall, seven great grandchildren and another expected to arrive in February 2019.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Vaca Hills Chapel, 524 Elmira Road in Vacaville.  A viewing will be held prior to the funeral starting at 1:00 P.M.  He will be laid to rest at the Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Merlin to the Yolo Hospice, P.
