It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Dennis Maples announces his passing on Thursday, Jan. 11, at the age of 54. Born and raised in Vallejo, Michael attended Steffan Manor Elementary School, Springstowne Junior High School, and Hogan Senior High School, graduating in 1981. In 1978, he began working with his grandfather, Harry Harris, at Harris Shell Service Station, which his grandparents owned and operated. Michael worked on Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a shipwright from 1982 until its closure in 1996. After the permanent closure of Mare Island, Michael worked in the private sector as a finish carpenter. He was a member of the Crockett Bass Club for over 30 years and held several positions on the board. He played bocce ball with the Vallejo Bocce Ball Association. Michael enjoyed fishing, music concerts, and spending time with family and friends. Michael was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mack and Evelyn Maples, and his maternal grandparents, Harry and Alice Harris. He is survived by his wife, Shannon (Anderson) Maples; parents, Richard and Vicki (Harris) Maples; aunt, Lori (George) Nelson; in-laws, Richard and Laura Kean and Ronald and Judy Anderson; and several cousins. A celebration of Michael's life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Loyal Order of Moose , 337 Nebraska St., Vallejo.
