Nicky "Nick" Earl York was born May 25, 1943, in Modesto, California, and died February 6, 2026, in Vacaville, California.

Nick lived and worked across the country, calling many places home over the years, including California, Colorado, North Carolina, and Tennessee. His work took him far and wide, and he loved seeing the countryside along the way.

Nick made his living doing the kind of work that keeps the world connected. He was a phone equipment installer, working on lines, equipment, and transmission stations. He took real pride in his craft, and he was known as someone who could figure things out and get the job done.

Outside of work, Nick was happiest with his hands busy. He built things, welded, and worked on cars. He especially enjoyed fixing things that were broken, for himself and for anyone who asked. He loved camping, and he loved driving his Scout, taking in the open road and whatever the day brought.

Nick also enjoyed raising mules and attending mule shows. He was kind to everyone he met, and people knew they could count on him. He believed in supporting your beliefs and your heart, and in having a dream and doing what it takes to pursue it.

Nick graduated from Modesto High School.

Nick is survived by his wife, Zelda York; his daughter, Teri York; his stepson, Dennis McIninch and his wife Aubrey; his grandchildren, Madeleine and Ruby; and his sisters, Judy Hein, Penny Riley, and Melody Richardson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

A Memorial Service will be held for Nicky York on March 27, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home; 524 Elmira Road, Vacaville, California.
