Obituary

Patricia Barnes, 81, longtime Christian educator, passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2018, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. She was surrounded by loved ones.

Patricia Marie Stoll was born June 2, 1936 in Inglewood, California to Nadine Marie (Scar) Stoll and  Albert Gustav Stoll. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1958 from the University of California at Davis, then returned for an extra year to earn her teaching credential. She married Charles H. Barnes, DVM, on June 13, 1959. They moved to Frederick, Maryland, where Charles served in the US Army, then made their home for the next 56 years in Vacaville, California, where they raised their children. After many years as a homemaker, Pat briefly taught public school, then worked for nearly 30 years as the director of Christian education at Community Presbyterian Church, working closely with the Presbyterian Enrichment Preschool. Two generations of PEP school children knew her as "Miss Pat."

She was a Girl Scout leader, hotline volunteer, and sang with the local chapter of Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed traveling the country and the world with her husband, children, grandchildren, mother, and friends. She journeyed to England, Scotland, France, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Egypt, Israel, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. Her last long trip was to Cornwall to visit a friend she made on her trip in New Zealand. She liked to have fun and help other people have fun too. She enjoyed taking and developing photographs and doing crafts with children. She loved to sew, cook, garden, try new things and meet new people.

Survivors include her husband Charles H. Barnes; daughter Susan Barnes and her husband Mike Ferguson of Billings, MT; daughter Carolyn Henninger and her husband Steve Henninger of Corning, CA; daughter Julie Barnes of Suisun, CA; grandchildren Lucas Ferguson of Billings, MT and Eleanor Ferguson of Shoreline, WA; cherished family friends, Cindy Lowney and her husband Gary Rydstrom of Fairfax, CA; her brother Albert Stoll Sr. and his wife Jenny of Healdsburg, CA; and her nephew Albert Stoll, Jr. and his wife Julie and their children Grant, Natalie, and Reid of Ross, CA.

The family appreciates the great love and deep devotion caregiver Carissa Jacobo and her children Nialani and Maleena Maupin of Vacaville, CA showed Pat for the last four years.

Her daughter, the Rev. Susan Barnes, along with the Rev. Mark Wright, will officiate at the memorial service on Saturday January 27 at 1:00 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church in Vacaville, CA with a reception to follow.
