Patrick “Pat” Richardson, 81, passed away peacefully at home in Vacaville, CA on September 14, 2026. Pat was born on March 7, 1945 in San Francisco and grew up in Redwood City, CA. A graduate of Junipero Serra High School, he spent most of his life in Redwood City before moving to Vacaville.
Pat began his working life at a florist shop, where he developed a talent for flower arranging. Although his time there was relatively brief, flowers remained part of his life. He created arrangements for his children’s weddings and other family occasions. He tended beautiful gardens of his own, including a wide variety of beautiful roses.
He later went into construction, eventually starting his own general contracting and remodeling business with his best friend, Ed Pedigo. Together, they formed Pedrich Construction. He took great pride in the quality of his work and built a strong reputation among his customers, with much of his business coming through referrals.
Pat was a true Renaissance man, endlessly curious and always willing to try something new. His enduring passions included gardening, especially vegetables and roses; photography and the art of seeing light; sailing; wildlife; and travel. Hawaii and Yellowstone were among his favorite destinations, and he especially loved returning to Yellowstone by RV to explore its wilderness and watch its wildlife. Earlier in life, he also enjoyed autocross with his Corvairs, fishing, duck hunting, camping, and many other adventures.
Pat was kind, intelligent, witty, and a lot of fun to be around. He loved to laugh, tease the people he loved, and reminisce about the funny and sometimes ridiculous things they'd done together. A natural caretaker and provider, he expressed his love through what he did for others – sharing his time and knowledge, preparing a good meal, or simply being there when needed.
Pat was also sentimental about the things that mattered to him: family traditions, thoughtful gestures, and the memories made along the way. He delighted in being a grandfather and great-grandfather, whether playing with his grandson as a boy or making faces and coaxing smiles from his great-grandson.
Pat was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Those fortunate enough to know him will carry a part of him with them in the stories they tell, the laughter they remember, the things he taught them, and the memories they shared.
He is survived by his brother, Michael Richardson; his son, Thomas Richardson, and his wife Karen; his daughter, Susan Rosenthal, and her husband Kenneth; his grandson, Andrew Richardson and his wife Jessica; and his great-grandson, Caiden Richardson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry “Hank” and Marguerite “Margie” Richardson.
A celebration of Patrick’s life will be held on January 23, 2027 at noon at Sequoia Yacht Club in Redwood City.
