Ray Perasso

April 27, 1930 – March 3, 2022

It is with great sadness to announce that Ray passed away on March 3, 2022 with his wife Marlene by his side.

Ray was born in Richmond, California in the family home to Pietro and Emma Rebella Perasso.

He graduated from Richmond High School in 1948, where he lettered in baseball and football. After high school he joined the Navy. While stationed in San Diego he was accepted on the football team in the Destroyer Pacific League and was proud to have been able to play at the Rose Bowl.

After his discharge from the Navy he enrolled at San Mateo College. The summer of 1951 he played baseball with the California Mohawks baseball team made up of Northern California college students and in the Western Canadian Baseball League.

Ray and Marlene met at a church teen dance when Marlene was 16 and Ray was 18. When Ray returned from the Navy they reconnected and were married in 1952. Their 70 ^th anniversary would have been in April, 2022.

They had two sons, Greg and Scott. He loved his family and was very proud of them. He enjoyed going to his son's sporting events and the grandchildren and great grandchildren's sporting events.

Ray was an avid 49er fan and held season tickets for many years when they played at Kezar Stadium. He was also a Giants fan.

He loved to play golf and was a member of the Seniors club at Davis Golf Course for many years and made many friends there. He also was a former member of the Richmond Country Club and Richmond Galileo Club.

Ray and Marlene enjoyed going on golf trips around the country with Richmond Country Club members and also golf trips with other friends.

He worked for the city of Richmond for 32 years, retiring as a public works inspector.

He was a perfectionist in anything he did and wanted things to be done right.

Ray never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and made sure he knew their name and would remember their names. He made sure he knew the wives name of his golfing buddies and the names of their pets also.

Ray faced many health challenges in recent years and he faced them with courage and never gave up.

He left a legacy of courage, hard work and kindness. He was always willing to help anyone who was in need.

He was predeceased by parents Pietro and Emma Perasso, son Scott, brother Don Perasso, sister-in-law Lorraine, sister  Rose Girimonte, brother-in-law Joe Girimonte, niece Charlene Paolini

Ray is survived by wife Marlene, son Greg (Brenda), daughter-in-law Sherry Perasso, grandchildren Dustin Perasso (Megan), Adam (Katie), Jennifer Perasso, Janelle Perasso, Jessica Keys (Justin) and 8 great-grandchildren, Grant, Emily, Logan, Lily, Ella, Jayden, Juliette and Tanner, brother-in-law Jack  Connor and nieces Sharon Perasso, April French, Angela Fernandez, nephews Michael Girimonte and Steven Paolini.

Many thanks to the assisted living staff at  Cogir Retirement living for the excellent care and concern given to Ray in the last 10 months.

Thanks also to North Bay Hospice for the outstanding coverage given to Ray by their loving and caring staff.

There will be a memorial service at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Vaca Hills Chapel followed by a celebration of life at the Leisure Town Community Center in Vacaville.

The family requests in lieu of flowers donations may be made to your favorite charity.

Interment will be private at a later date.
