"Sai" | "Chunie"

Sainila Faagau Jr., affectionately known as Sai or Chunie, was born to Sainila A. Faagau and Siusavaii Umaleava Moi. He lived a life rooted in family, service, and community, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Sai received his early education at Alvarado Elementary School and James Lick Junior High School, before graduating from Mission High School. He continued his studies at City College of San Francisco, where he majored in Early Childhood Development, reflecting his genuine care for children and future generations.

He proudly served in the United States Army, demonstrating his commitment to duty and country. Following his military service, Sai worked in Security at Chevron Corporate Offices and later served as a Supervisor at Aveina Brothers Store in Matu'u, American Samoa, where he was respected for his leadership, work ethic, and integrity.

On November 25, 1978, Sai married the love of his life, Leutu Faafetai Laumoli. Together they built a strong and loving family. He was a devoted father to Aaron Faagau (Reyna Carrillo), Treanna Faagau (Malu Noa Jr.), Perry Faagau (Janette Iosefa), and Tatiana Faagau, and a proud grandfather to Aalana; Adrianna, Kuresa, Koraleen, Knox, Knight, Beau, Alofamoni, and Anahera; Matthew, Jordan, Masaia, and Josalynn.

Sai had many passions. He loved collecting comic books and postcards, was a true NFL junkie, and a full-on sports fanatic who could talk sports with anyone, anytime. A devoted Jeopardy! Fan, he enjoyed the thrill of trivia and friendly competition. He also had a deep love for science fiction, especially classic shows and films like The X-Files and Star Trek, which he could watch endlessly.

He also gave back to his community, serving as a summer counselor at Bethany Day Camp, where he positively impacted many young lives through his patience, guidance, and kindness.

Sai is survived by his brother Gary Faagau and sister Nanette Aveau, his children and grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his father Sainila Faagau, mother Siusavaii Faagau, sisters Olafou Grant and Julie Faagau, and brother Andrew Faagau.

Sai's life was one of service, family, and joy. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit, stories, and love will live on through the generations he leaves behind.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Viewing and Funeral Service will be held for Sainila Faagau Jr on Sunday, February 15, 2025 from 1:00-5:00 P.M. at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home; 524 Elmira Road, Vacaville, California.

Graveside Service to follow on Monday, February 16, 2026, 9:30 A.M. at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery; 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, California. Procession to burial will start at 8:50 A.M. at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home.
