Stephen Rene
La Pointe
Apr 10, 1951 — Dec 25, 2017
Vacaville
Steve R. LaPointe passed away on December 25, 2017 in Vacaville, CA, at the age of 66. He was born in San Mateo, CA on April 10, 1951.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Berna LaPointe, his daughter and son-in-law Carrie and Wes Baumgarner, his son and daughter-in-law Steve and Julie LaPointe, his daughter and son-in-law Tara and Dave Fox, step-son Larry Larson and step-daughter Patty Oberman. Steve was also the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren; Austin Wieck, Stevie LaPointe, Krisily Baumgarner, Kate Moore, Hayden Fox, Kailey Baumgarner, Andrea Larson, Kara Larson, Grant Larson, Natasha Barnes and Kayla Carden and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings; Terri Canterbury, Jeanne LaPointe, Greg LaPointe and Kara Quesada.
Steve was a proud Vietnam Veteran and served in the U.S. Army as a part of the 82nd Airborne Division from 1969 to 1972. After his military service, he began his long time career in carpentry and construction. His last position was in Construction Management on Federal projects until he retired in 2014.
Steve enjoyed the outdoors and his favorite things to do were hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed a nice round of golf with his family and friends and watching the San Francisco Giants. He loved country music and his favorite singer was Merle Haggard. He had a passion for cooking, barbequing and loved to make the perfect meal to share with family and friends which always contained one of his secret ingredients.
Steve coached youth sports for many years while his children were growing up and was the biggest supporter of his grandchildren's sports and activities. He was often found in the stands or on the sidelines for all of their sporting events and rarely missed a game. He got great joy out of watching his family do what they love. Family was everything to Steve and his love was felt by all.
Steve most recently volunteered his time in 2016 and 2017 with the Solano County CASA for Children program, making a tremendous impact on the local troubled youth. He was awarded the CASA "Volunteer of the Year Award" for 2017 in recognition of all of his hard work and dedication.
Steve will be missed by so many. He touched a lot of lives with his witty sense of humor and extensive knowledge of everything. He was the Jack of all trades and never needed "You Tube" to figure things out like the rest of us. He was always willing to share his words of wisdom and advice. He was the man with all the answers, even when it wasn't the answer you wanted to hear. He was without a doubt, one of a kind!
Forever our Christmas Angel!
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 6th at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home, 524 Elmira Road in Vacaville.
