Life began for Steve on the Mojave desert in the town of Victorville and sadly came to an end in the Sierra foothills near Auburn, California. Steve was doing what he enjoyed doing since high school, riding a motorbike. He had repressed his desire to ride until fairly recently when he bought a hog. For those intervening years he experienced many things, crashing a Volkswagen into a telephone pole near Steve Demartini's family home comes to mind. But growing up, accidents happen; beyond that I know he had many wonderful experiences, receiving his education in San Rafael, visiting his mother's homeland in Japan, living in Hawaii where he developed a passion for cooking, Waycross, Georgia where he began training as a mason, and eventually bought a home in Vacaville. He leaves behind his wife Carrie, her daughter Brittney and cousin Dean; his buddy Aries; four children Paris, Steve Jr, Eric, and Billy; many grandchildren, parents Lawrence and Yoshiko, older brother Lynnwood and his wife Mishal, workmates, and many friends. The trade had been his working life, he will miss his companions and the contribution that masons have made to America's infrastructure. But it took its toll, eventually got the better of him and required surgery to repair a hernia. Retirement is never easy, but he was in the process of making the transition, looking forward to cruising the delta, it's byways, smelling it's air, fishing, sipping a beer, and listening to the water splash against the hull. God speed and thanks for your love, workmanship, and sharing your soul with all of us.
