Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Coggan passed away peacefully at his home in Vacaville, California on November 11, 2024. He was born in Oakland, California, on May 27, 1946, to Mark and Edna (Lallement) Coggan.

In 1971, Tom began his work with the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department. He rose through the ranks to retire as a Captain in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of service and respect that touched the lives of those he worked with and protected.

In his retirement, Tom embraced the good things in life—golfing, cruising the seas, camping along the Scott River, and spending quality time with family and friends. Known for his humor and adventurous spirit, Tom found joy in the simple pleasures and the company of loved ones.

Tom is survived by his daughters, Wendy Coggan-Tom (Thomas) and Alli Ristow (Matthew), his grandchildren Kevin Ortiz (Nicole), Breanna Jimenez (Caleb), Kelsey Tom, Christopher Tom, Lucas Babot, and Zoe Babot, as well as his great-grandson, Oliver. He is also survived by his sister Nancy (Greg) Meredith and his brother William (Diane) Coggan.

Honoring Tom's wishes, there will be no formal service. In his memory, those who knew and loved him are encouraged to reflect on their favorite moments with Tom, keeping his spirit alive through stories and fond memories.
