Wayne David
Bertolino
Jul 4, 1937 — Feb 20, 2023
Wayne David Bertolino died February 20, 2023 at the age of 85. Wayne was born on July 4, 1937 in Ironwood, Michigan to Joseph and Evelyn Bertolino. He spent his childhood in Pence, Wisconsin and joined the United States Air Force after high school in 1955.
While Wayne was stationed in France, he met his beautiful wife Carmen and they were married in 1965. They welcomed their first daughter, Sylvie, in 1966 and their second daughter, Michelle, in 1970. The family of four enjoyed the military lifestyle and the many moves and friends made along the way. Wayne retired from the Air Force after 23 years and worked 10 more years as a civil service employee on Mare Island and Travis AFB.
Wayne was a family man, first and foremost. He enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, especially around the dinner table. His hobbies included: reading, photography, coin collecting, and traveling. He was an excellent storyteller with an incredible sense of humor.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carmen (who he lovingly called Carrie) and his daughters Sylvie (Ron) and Michelle (Tom). He was a proud Papa to his grandchildren Lyndsey (Ben), David, Anthony, and Victoria. He is also survived by his brother Donald (LuAnn) and sister Patricia, his nieces Karen (John) and Jill, and great-nieces Madison and Kristen.
Wayne will be buried with full military honors at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 15 at 12 PM at Vaca Hills Chapel (524 Elmira Road, Vacaville).
He will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on in those who loved and learned from him.
