Wendell R. Coleman, 81, of Vacaville, CA passed away surrounded by family at his home on Friday, May 14, 2021.

Wendell was born on 9/21/1939 in Oakland, CA to his parents Erma and Everett Coleman. He was raised in Rodeo, CA and was a graduate of John Swett High School, Crockett, CA.  After high school, Wendell entered military service on 3/10/58 with the US Air Force, serving during the Vietnam war as a Radio Operator. He told many stories of his tours in Alaska, Thailand, and the Philippines. During his time at Clark AB, Philippines, he met his future wife Purita, they were married in 1960. He was honorably discharged after eight years of active duty service.

After his military service, they returned to California, settling in Rodeo and later in Vacaville. Wendell entered civil service at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, starting as an apprentice and eventually retiring as a pipefitter general foreman with 35 years federal service.  During those 35 years, he garnered many awards, achievements, and accolades for his superior work. He loved his job and enjoyed sharing about his work on the nuclear submarines. He formed many long-lasting friendships over the years working in Shops 11, 56 and 99.

Wendell was a loving and devoted husband, a nurturing father and grandfather, a faithful brother and friend. He had many passions and interests to include: hunting, fishing, camping, sports, playing softball, and traveling. He found joy in his family, building many fond memories at holiday celebrations, family dinners, BBQ's, and cross-country road trips.  As the patriarch of the family, he was looked upon for his wisdom, knowledge, and guidance and he offered this willingly with a bit of humor and his fun-loving outlook on life.

Wendell was predeceased by his parents, Erma and Everett Coleman, his brother, Veryle and grandson Alex Powell. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Purita Coleman; daughter Peggy Maksin (Joe); son Greg Coleman; granddaughter Lauren Trerotola (Jason); sister Lois Campers; and brother Charles Coleman (Sharon).  He is also survived by his great grandchildren (Anthony, Blake, and Leo), and several nieces and nephews.

A military service and burial is pending at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, CA
